Responsibility and functions

Study Board
The Academic Study Board is responsible for the planning, the delivery and the development of degree courses and teaching in accordance with current legislation for university education.

Functions of the Academic Study Board include among others:

  • Drawing up proposals for curricula and amendments hereto for hearings at departments and approval by the Dean
  • Approving the Head of Studies’ plan for teaching, tests and other forms of assessments.
  • Ensuring the coordination of individual parts of the study programme
  • Quality assurance and development of degrees based on evaluations - Approving applications, credit transfers and dispensation cases

The Board consists of an equal number of elected students and lecturers. All work is carried out in close collaboration with the Head of Studies.

Head of Study
The Head of Study is responsible for the overall coordination of the study programme in close collaboration with the Academic Study Board and the relevant Departments, in accordance with current legislation for university education. The Head of Study is recommended by the Academic Study Board and appointed by the dean.

Functions of the Head of Study include among others:

  • Being the interlocutor between Academic Study Board, head of department, Course Responsibles and Lecturers on the study programme.
  • Driving academic and pedagogic quality assurance and development of Study Programmes
  • Bringing forward suggestions and recommendations regarding study programmes to the Academic Study Board.
  • Assessing and approving changes to course descriptions and programme curricula
  • Dealing with evaluations and complaints regarding lecturing, courses or programmes together with the Vice Head of Department. 
  • Reporting plagiarism suspicions

The Head of Study is your main point of contact among others when it comes to:

  • The study programme and your course’s contribution to students’ learning
  • Regulations and official administrative procedures regarding course contents & structures
  • Student complaints
  • Suspicions of plagiarism in students’ assignments

Education and Profile Responsible & Course Responsible
On some education programmes, the Head of Study delegates a part of their tasks to the education and profile responsible for specific campuses or education profiles. While a lot of their work involves interacting with the students, they can also provide you additional insights into the education or profile’s structure and underlying pedagogic approach.

 

The Course Responsible is stated on the course description. The Course Responsible is responsible for the academic administration and development of a course.

The Course Responsible is your main point of contact regarding the goal, contents & format of the course. They can usually also enlighten you about the types of students attending the course and which learning activities typically work well for the course.

 

Head of Research Group
In addition to their general role in managing the research group, the heads of research groups at DBM are responsible for allocating staff to teaching tasks for each semester.

When it comes to teaching activities, they are your first point of contact regarding:

  • The courses you (would like to) teach
  • Your workload management

In some groups, the Head of Research has delegated (part of) this task to another colleague, in which case they will point you to the right person for your questions.

 

Study Administration
The Study Administration works with all areas of programme administration and communication at SAMF. They support the operation of study activities i.e. coordinating timetables, allocating rooms, setting up exam platforms, responding to student requests, etc.

They are your main point of contact for among others:

  • Scheduling lectures & assigning lecture rooms
  • Examination administration

The Study administration is organized differently between faculties. Under Educational contacts you will find contacts to the different Study administrations.


Technical service

The Technical Service is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations at University of Southern Denmark and ensuring the best internal and external physical surroundings in close interaction with the faculties and the central administration.
