New organisational changes in the name of sustainability

In June 2023, SDU’s Board adopted the University’s new strategy. The new strategy calls for organisational changes regarding the University’s sustainability work.

In 2019, SDU’s Board decided that the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals should be the focal point of the University’s sustainability work.

University Director Thomas Buchvald Vind writes in the Rectorate’s column that the new strategy says yes to sustainability, but without being tied to the Sustainable Development Goals.

- SDU will continue to contribute excellent research that points the way to new sustainable solutions, says Thomas Buchvald Vind in the column from 26 October 2023.

Increased focus

SDU’s management has high ambitions for the research, teaching and operation of the University. This is particularly evident in the increased focus on climate.

SDU has a goal of reducing total CO2 emissions by 57% by 2030 compared to 2018.

There are great ambitions to achieve this, and in 2024 the next phase of work with SDU’s Climate Plan will continue.

Two teams of Climate Ambassadors

As part of SDU’s Climate Plan for 2030, a number of employees distributed across SDU’s faculties and in the Central Administration have become trained climate ambassadors.

Two teams of climate ambassadors have now merged into one, and the autumn of 2023 has been spent building relationships and setting expectations regarding the role of climate ambassador. This is intended to strengthen the work of the Climate Ambassadors, which will continue in 2024.

Part of the climate ambassadors’ work is to help strengthen local ownership and involvement in the work with the climate plan. This work will continue in 2024, when the areas of focus for 2025 to 2027 will be initiated.

Bill Busch Andersen, head of the Central Administrative Service Team and Climate Operations, supports SDU’s Climate Ambassadors and is also an active part of the administrative service in the Central Administration at SDU which works with SDU’s climate accounting.

New email

As part of SDU’s yes to sustainability, the Our Global Goals pages are undergoing change.
