Vision

OUH and SDU add new layers to their collaboration

With a new joint vision, SDU and OUH will address several of society's major challenges through new knowledge, innovative methods and strong proposals for the technological solutions of the future.

Right now, there is a firewall in the connection zone between Nyt Sund and Nyt OUH. It is a visual marker of a physical separation that must be broken down in the foreseeable future to open up new opportunities and collaboration across the two organizations.

The collaboration must make a societal difference that can strengthen the population's health.

The Faculty of Health Sciences and OUH in particular have worked closely together for years, and in 2019 the management boards from OUH and SDU adopted a joint strategy for even closer cooperation across the entire university.

Visions and concrete measures

In a new vision paper, the two organizations now unfold their ambitions and support them with concrete examples of how to get there.
OUH and SDU will enter into new innovative partnerships with both local, national and international partners.

The two organizations will, among other things, focus on strengthening the common infrastructure and on bringing researchers together in interdisciplinary research collaborations that can achieve societal impact.

Professional environments at SDU and OUH must mutually inspire each other and be strengthened in creating and transferring knowledge across disciplines, so that citizens and patients benefit from it.

Rector of SDU, Jens Ringsmose says:

- Most important in the vision is a belief that interdisciplinary cooperation can make a societal difference. Therefore, we will also invite a large number of other players to join in the realization of the vision.

And managing hospital director of OUH, Niels Nørgaard Pedersen, states:

- We must have the courage to break boundaries and to rethink our approaches. Together, we can pave the way for progress in the population's health, research of the highest quality and relevant training for the health professionals of the future.

The next steps

The vision paper is inspired by international experiences with co-location and collaboration across hospitals and universities. The next step in the unfolding of the vision will be a kick-off workshop, which will take place in the spring of 2024.

In addition, a joint website platform is planned, which unfolds the two institutions' already extensive areas of cooperation as well as the new initiatives that SDU and OUH will invite for partnerships.
