Air travel

SDU employees are flying significantly less

New data from the University of Southern Denmark shows that compared to the years before the Coronavirus pandemic, employees’ total CO2e emissions from air travel have been significantly reduced. From having emitted 3,645,000 kg CO2e in 2019, the figure in 2023 is currently at 1,303,000 kg CO2e.

The University of Southern Denmark anticipates that the total amount of CO2e emitted as a result of employee air travel will more than halve this year, compared to the years before 2020 and the pandemic.

In fact, it appears that SDU’s goal of reducing total CO2 emissions by 57% by 2030 compared to 2018 figures may already be met this year. This is equivalent to the emissions of 98,610 beef burgers, each weighing 100 grams.

Bring the good habits into 2024

This is high praise indeed for the considerate and climate-friendly habits of SDU employees when travelling at home and internationally. They are also encouraged to keep up the good work next year.

For while such a significant reduction in air travel is to be celebrated, there has still been an increase in emissions in relation to the emissions from 2022. So remember the good advice and recommendations for work-related trips, which can be found on SDUnet.
