SDU’s promotion programme has come into effect

The attraction, retention and development of academic talent are essential for SDU to carry out its core tasks in research, teaching and dissemination. SDU must therefore be competitive as an attractive workplace. The promotion programme has been developed as a supplement to existing career development and recruitment interventions, with the aim of both retaining and attracting particularly talented academic staff to SDU.

The promotion programme can be offered to already employed associate professors as well as being an option in connection with recruitment, so that newly appointed associate professors can be enrolled concurrently on the promotion programme. The duration and content of the programme will depend on the individual associate professor’s experience and need for competence development prior to evaluation for professorship. However, as a rule the programme should last at least two years and can extend to a maximum of eight years. The transition to professorship requires a positive assessment that is approved by the dean.

A working group established by the Central Liaison Committee (HSU) has prepared a proposal for the overall framework of the promotion programme, which has been circulated for consultation at SDU and has subsequently been approved by the Executive Board. In line with this, the faculty management in collaboration with the local collegial councils has decided how the programme will be implemented in concrete terms and thus how the programme can be linked to the faculty’s other career and recruitment policies and strategies. Thus, the individual faculties have had to decide on, for instance, the purpose of using the programme; what is meant by particularly talented researchers; the composition of review groups; the link to any meritable criteria; and to what extent they wish to use the programme.
