University of Southern Denmark Research Portal

The University of Southern Denmark’s Research Portal offers a public access to research and expert areas at the university. If you need help to get started using the portal or to edit your own information displayed here, please see the FAQ below.

Below you will find an FAQ which answers questions regarding the new features of the Portal. The first part of the FAQ concerns the functionalities of the Research Portal and the subsequent part concerns how you edit information displayed on the portal. If you don’t find the answer to your question, please contact the Pure office at puresupport@bib.sdu.dk.

The Research Portal

Are you looking for a specific researcher? You can search for the name in the search field on the front page. Are you looking for an expert in a certain area? You can make either a standard search or a concept search.

In standard search you can combine search terms. You can use the Boolean operators AND or OR, and you can truncate a search term with * or use ? as a wildcard. You can search in Danish or English.

An example could be:

surroga* AND wom?n

A concept search is a way to narrow your search for an expertise to only the most fitting researchers or research. This search method uses computer generated keywords – called Fingerprint – assigned to content and persons and only returns results where search terms are used as keywords.
A concept search will only return the five most used concept terms matching your own search term. Researchers and content displayed will be those most fitting to these five concept terms.

The Research Portal uses the Elsevier Fingerprint Engine to analyze text to identify concepts that make up a fingerprint for the individual publication or prize. The Fingerprint tool analyses and extracts concepts for all publications and prizes that are registered with an English title and an English abstract placed in the fields designated for English text. Based on the publications registered in Pure the Fingerprint Engine also generate a unique Fingerprint for all people and organizations in Pure.  It is still possible to add manual keywords as usual. They will not interfere with the Fingerprint tool.

Some publications will have icons for PlumX metrics and Altmetrics. The metrics captures usage and citations in various aspects. The metrics are integrated into the Research Portal by design and is not from SDU’s Pure system but is retrieved in other ways. Both metrics utilize DOI numbers to identify publications. Therefore, it can be beneficial to add DOI numbers to publications in Pure when possible. DOI numbers are recognizable by always beginning with 10.

If a file uploaded in Pure gets downloaded from the Research Portal, you will get a metrics counter showcasing the total number of downloads of that file. Downloads performed by web crawlers and robots are not counted.

The Research Portal displays data from SDU’s research information system Pure, which can be accessed by employees at www.sdu.dk/pure. Information regarding researchers and research units is imported from SDU’s HR-system HCM.

Pure receives one nightly update from HCM, which means that changes and corrections made on researchers or research units will take effect in Pure the day after they were entered into HCM. On top of this, it can take up-to 24 hours before a change or correction will be visible in the Research Portal.

Adding or correcting information such as phone number, e-mail address, web page or unit (e.g., Centre, Department/section, Research field group etc.) for a research unit in the Research Portal can be done in HCM by contacting HR at HR-data@sdu.dk.

Corrections to a Research Units name or placement in the organizational hierarchy on the Research Portal requires approval by the Head of Department and/or Faculty as well as the financial service Department.
