Spin-outs Denmark is already underway and supports young researchers in translating their research into solutions that benefit society. The programme - run by the eight Danish universities - has been awarded the ASTP Impact Awards.

MedTech Odense awards first millions for development of cutting-edge health technology

Every year, approximately 200,000 patients in Denmark undergo an ultrasound examination of the heart in connection with suspected or known heart disease. The need is increasing and is expected to grow in the future due to more patients. This societal challenge requires new solutions. MedTech Odense is therefore awarding a grant of DKK 14 million for a visionary and interdisciplinary project between the University of Southern Denmark and Odense University Hospital. This project will automate the examination process and has the potential to develop cutting-edge health technology with even broader applications in the healthcare system.

Henning G. Kruse Foundation donates landmark building in Esbjerg to SDU

Welcome to 4,635 new SDU students

<p>This year, the University of Southern Denmark has offered 4,635 prospective bachelor students a place in either Odense, Esbjerg, Slagelse, Kolding or S&oslash;nderborg.</p> <p> This an increase of 7% compared to 2022. The entire university sector has seen an increase in applications to higher education programmes this year.</p> <h2> New programme offerings have attracted many new students</h2> <p> Helle Waagepetersen, Pro-Rector for Education at SDU, is delighted with this year&rsquo;s applications to the University of Southern Denmark.</p> <p> - We are happy to welcome so many new students to SDU, and we look forward to welcoming everyone at the start of the semester. I am particularly pleased that our new programme offerings have got off to such a good start with many qualified applicants, and that we have succeeded in creating attractive study environments and programmes, she says.</p> <p>The University of Southern Denmark has created four new programmes this year. In S&oslash;nderborg, for instance, it has been possible for the first time to apply for the MSc in Software Engineering programme, on which 134 out of more than 500 applicants have been offered a place, and 59 applicants have been offered a place on the Law programme in Esbjerg.</p> <h2> Progress at four out of five faculties</h2> <p> At faculty level, the application rate matched or exceeded that of 2022 at four out of five faculties. The Faculty of Engineering in particular has attracted many applicants and this year can offer a place to 34% more applicants compared to last year.</p> <p> The natural science and social science programmes have offered places to 6% and 3% more students than last year, respectively, while the places offered at the Faculty of Health Sciences are at the same level as in 2022. New Centre for Industrial Mechanics on its way in Sønderborg

<p> On 24 February, representatives from SDU and Bitten &amp; Mads Clausen Fond, LINAK, Region of Southern Denmark and S&oslash;nderborg Municipality signed an agreement on the establishment of the Centre for Industrial Mechanics. </p> <p> The centre shall contain new educations within the mechanics field as well as unique lab facilities and an international top-class research unit within mechanics.&nbsp;</p> <h2> Industry clamour for engineers </h2> <p> Despite rising admissions on the country&rsquo;s engineering study programmes during the latest years, Denmark will be facing a massive lack of highly educated technological labour in 2025 and onwards. </p> <p> The new centre will be established to meet this lack of engineers so that companies can maintain their production in Denmark. </p> <p> At the same time, it will support the sustainable development that is the general focus of the companies&rsquo; efforts. With the establishment of CIM, the state of knowledge and eco system within products such as electric cars, windmills and robots is going to be strengthened. </p> <h2> Success breeds success </h2> <p> It is not the first time that the five partners go together to establish a centre. In October last year, the Centre for Industrial Electronics (CIE) was opened. </p> <p> In very short time, CIE has become a lighthouse within power electronics and has demonstrated what public bodies like Region of Southern Denmark, S&oslash;nderborg Municipality and SDU can achieve in collaboration with global companies such as Danfoss and LINAK. </p> <p> There are unique opportunities for synergy effects between the two centres which, among others, can help to boost the green solutions that climate change requires. </p> <h2> Research-based knowledge </h2> <p> With education and research, the Centre for Industrial Mechanics will support companies within the wind industry, e-mobility and energy efficiency enhancement. </p> <p> It is the goal of Centre for Industrial Mechanics to build research facilities and to connect an internationally recognised research unit of 30+ staff members by 2030. By this, the centre ensures the companies&rsquo; access to research-based knowledge. </p> <p> The partners contribute with a total of 93 mill kroner to the establishment of the Centre for Industrial mechanics (CIM). </p>
