Ready for Open Day at SDU

On Saturday, 26 February, SDU will host Open Day for potential students. Many staff and students have put a lot of work into receiving the students this day.

Dear staff

It was a great pleasure to celebrate the faculty's New Year’s reception on Tuesday. Not least, it was really nice to see both familiar and new faces in the auditorium, and it was nice to have a chat over a glass of champagne afterwards. I definitely think we should follow Martin Svensson's statement to Vice-Chancellor Jens Ringsmose that it is already a tradition, even though this was our first New Year's reception.

In his speech, Jens also presented us with some good questions to think about - for example:

  • What does it mean to be a regionally anchored university?
  • How does SDU also become a strong international player?
  • And how do we ensure high quality in everything we do at SDU?

I believe that several of our strategic initiatives at NAT can contribute to both discussions and solutions to these issues.

There are two major activities underway in the Executive Board right now. One is the SDU Climate Cluster (SCC), where we are working on the final descriptions of instruments. These descriptions of the SCC will then be sent for consultation to the collegiate bodies, after which the SCC must finally be approved by the Executive Board. The material is expected to be available on SCC's website at the end of March, including a roadmap for the various instruments.

The second activity is the discussions of a new budget model at SDU. This work began with a workshop for the Executive Board, which led to a list of possible principles for a new financial model. These principles must now be consulted in the collegiate bodies, and then the budget department will make various simulations based on the agreed principles. The goal is to have a new budget model ready for implementation in 2023.

Next Saturday, 26 February, SDU will host Open Day for potential students. Many staff and students have put a lot of work into receiving the students this day. They get the opportunity to hear about all the faculty's study programmes and get a tour of SDU and our departments. I hope that a lot of potential students find their way to our stands. It is our experience that this type of event, where the potential students get to meet university students and get to see SDU, is good for the recruitment of new students.
