A great Research Day for Science

Once again we were able to invite guest to visit our Reseach Day at our campus in Odense and the research station in Kerteminde.

Dear Staff

Saturday, both the Campus in Odense and the Marine Biological Research Center in Kerteminde buzzed with life during our yearly Research Day. Parents with children in prams and teddy bears under their arm flocked to the Teddy Bear Hospital from all entrances and despite approx. 10 consultation setups there was a queue quickly formed for this popular activity.

Our faculty presented a number of good old popular activities from previous years in addition to all the new and exciting activities. Everyone has put a lot of work into the preparations and therefore it is extra nice to see the great interest from young and old visiting SDU on this day.

A big attraction was "UFO Talk: Intelligent life in outer space?" with Frederik Dirks Gottlieb and Anja C. Andersen, who are known from the podcast "Flying saucer". They drew full houses in U45 with a preview of three controversial videos that have started the whole discussion about intelligent life in our universe. All age groups were represented among the audience and interesting and engaging questions were asked to the two hosts.

In Kerteminde, there was a joint event between the Marine Biological Research Center and Fjord&Bælt, which celebrated its 25th anniversary with champagne and highlights from an anniversary book that Magnus Wahlberg had written for the occasion. There was a large attendance from former directors, board members and politicians.

SDU's research was presented by training guinea pigs and seals and aquariums with jellyfish in all stages of life. The program ended with a presentation of "Jelloga" by Jamileh Javidpour and Heidi G. Jensen, who convinced the participants that the calm movements of jellyfish in aquariums can also give busy people peace of mind in a busy day.

I would like to thank all the staff and students who have contributed to our Research Day. It is incredibly important to engage young and old in our research. It was simply amazing to experience the great wealth of ideas and the great commitment from both researchers and participants on a sunny Saturday in April.
