In short: Building an EU-consortium

Join the EU bandwagon as either a coordinator or partner to tackle global challenges, expand your network, and access new research and methods. 

 A consortium consists of a coordinator and multiple partners that work together in the project. Where the coordinator take on the role of managing and overseeing the project,  the partners focus on specific tasks to reach the project objectives. Both roles play a crucial part in the consortium. 

    • Analyse the call to identify the key competences needed. You shouldn’t cover all of them yourself but find partners that have the expertise.  
    • Find reliable core partners to build a strong and diverse team. 
    • Leverage and expand your network beyond your own field, sector and geography, as long as the partners matches the tasks and competences stated in the call.  
    • Engage stakeholders and end-users during project implementation - be sure to have the competences in the consortium to manage this. 
    • Find a dedicated communication partner for efficient exploitation and dissemination. 
    • Start early and create a realistic time schedule. Preparing the proposal is a time-consuming task. Team up with colleagues and research support for help.  
    • Position your project with the European research and innovation context. Including available literature, projects, products, services, and EU policy.
    • Join projects in a less demanding and time-consuming role than as a coordinator.
    • Gain experience, funding, and new networks for your research career.
    • Analyse the call to see how you can contribute directly to the expected outcomes, scope and long-term impact of the topic.

Both coordinators and partners should establish good working relationships in the consortium as you must work together for several years. Also, remember that you apply as a consortium on an institutional level. Therefore, rather than focusing on individual resumés, it is the combined strength of the consortium that solves the societal challenge addressed in the call.
