Heimdal Security is SDU’s new tool for managing your administrative rights on your SDU Windows computer. Over August 2022 this solution will be activated on SDU’s Windows computer.
When it is your turn to change to the new solution, the below box will appear on your computer.
We recommend you install the tool as soon as possible, but you will have the opportunity to delay installation 4 times at intervals of 4 hours. After that, you cannot delay installation any longer.
How does Heimdal Security work?
If you are trying to make a change on your Windows computer or installing a and unknown program, you will get a message on your screen:
By using a small agent on the computer, you can give yourself administrative rights for 15 minutes. Click on the small dark blue shield and select ’Request Admin Privileges’.
Now, you can make the desired changes on your computer.
To do so, right-click on the file and select ‘Run as administrator’.
If you need a specific software program to be able to perform your daily work and you must elevate your privileges every time you use that program, please contact servicedesk@sdu.dk, who will register the desired software in Heimdal if it complies with the basic requirements.
For instance, we must ensure that the desired software will not harm SDU-computers and possibly we will have to assess whether a data processing agreement should be drawn up.
You will not be able to install all programs or make any change yourself. As a rule, programs must be installed in the ’programs’ or ‘programs(x86)’ folders. If the programs are installed elsewhere, they will be blocked and Heimdal must be activated as described above.
