Strategy

Take part in unfolding the strategic initiatives for 2023

This autumn, you have the chance to influence the strategic initiatives for the faculty in 2023. There are several ways to make your opinion heard.

By Tina Larsen, , 9/27/2022

The faculty management plans to continue and expand two initiatives that are already underway at NAT: Educational development and relevance and external collaboration.

In September and October, you can contact the members of SUSTAIN (meeting 30 September), the Faculty Liaison Committee (meeting 10 October), the Faculty Work Environment Committee (meeting 10 October), the Research Committee (meeting 14 October), the Faculty Education Committee (meeting 27 October) or the Academic Council (meeting 31 October). These are the first employees to be included by the Faculty Management Group in the discussions about new strategic themes.

When you contact a member of a committee, you can get more information by requesting the agenda for the meeting.

In November and December, the departments’ management groups will also involve the department councils in qualifying the strategic initiatives and, if they deem it relevant, other meeting forums at the departments will be involved as well.

Why should we talk about strategic initiatives?

Dean Marianne Holmer explains the Faculty Management Group’s considerations in relation to the new strategic themes:

– On several occasions, the Faculty Management Group has discussed the faculty’s current situation and what action is called for. Against the background of declining intake, the political agenda on regionalisation of degree programmes and the economic consequences of these, the Faculty Management Group sees it as crucial that the Faculty of Science focuses more on student recruitment and retention.

Marianne Holmer also explains that many external factors will affect the faculty in the coming years:

– Continual digital and technological development combined with the students’ desire for flexible courses of study and external demands on the faculty’s degree programmes means that everyone at the Faculty of Science must keep a close watch on the development of our degree programmes.

– I look forward to receiving the staff's input to the Faculty Management Group’s strategic proposals in the coming months, so that we can make the most well-qualified decisions for our Faculty, concludes Marianne Holmer.

What we are doing already

Right now, we are working with nine prioritised themes at the faculty, many of which are expected to continue into 2023 or beyond.

In addition, the following two strategic initiatives have been agreed on by SDU and the Faculty Management Group:

  • Strategy for external research funding at SDU: The strategy has just been published and will require contributions by he Faculty of Science in the coming years.
  • Research communication: The goal is to create more visibility around Science, and this is expected to continue for the duration of the strategy.

The Faculty Management Group is expected to decide on the strategic initiatives in January 2023.
