Status on Quota 2 Applications: A Slight Decline at HEALTH, Yet Our Position Remains Strong

Friday, 15 March, was the last deadline for applying to our bachelor's programmes via quota 2. At HEALTH, we are experiencing a minor decrease, but we still stand strong.

By SDU Kommunikation, 3/22/2024

It is encouraging to witness a total of 4,754 applicants for HEALTH's programmes. While this indicates a minor decrease from last year, it's reassuring to note that SDU has, overall, experienced a growth of four percent in the same timeframe.

Clinical Biomechanics is one of the HEALTH programmes that has shown progress with an increase of 10 per cent in applications. Other programmes, such as audiology, medicine, public health science, psychology, and sports and health, have seen either a status quo or a slight reduction in the number of applicants. On the whole, there is a 4 percent decline in applications to HEALTH's programmes.

 - Naturally, we would have preferred an increase in applicant numbers across all programmes. However, considering the smaller cohorts and societal trends, we must draw encouragement from our continued ability to attract a significant number of talented young individuals. There are close to 4,400 applications for medicine and psychology alone, affirming their status as among the most sought-after programmes in the country, states Merete Munk, Head of the Secretariat and Education Manager at the Faculty of Health Sciences.

One in Three Applies to HEALTH

Despite a 4 percent reduction at HEALTH, the faculty maintains a formidable presence within the SDU community.

- We recognise the imperative to further bolster our standing in certain areas, a challenge we accept with utmost seriousness. Equally, it's vital to acknowledge our ongoing success as the faculty drawing the largest number of quota 2 applicants. Remarkably, a third of all applications to the university as a whole originate from our faculty, a fact that justifies our shared sense of achievement, Merete Munk remarks.

The overall quota 2 application figures for the University of Southern Denmark have risen by 4 percent in comparison to 2023. This uptick is largely attributable to increased interest from prospective students in the campus cities of Kolding and Sønderborg, alongside a rise in international applications this year.

The deadline for quota 1 applications is set for 5 July.
