Access to the new HEALTH building: Transportation and Parking

With protected forests on both sides, the new HEALTH building serves as a bridge between the existing SDU and the new Odense University Hospital. This location affects the access to the new faculty building.

The protected forests on Campus Odense contribute to biodiversity. They provide a nice soundscape for the area and a beautiful view from new HEALTH building.

The protected forests, however, also mean that you can't park your car right next to the new faculty building.

On the other hand, there are nice bike paths and good bike parking at all entrances to the new faculty building and the tram also comes very close, as it has stops at the building's two main entrances.

Ride your bike or take the tram to the new HEALTH building

It is hoped that as many people as possible will choose to ride a bike or take the tram instead of a car when traveling to the new HEALTH building.

-Transportation to work is a major source of CO2 if one chooses the car as a means of transportation.

- We therefore hope that more and more people will use the tram or bike travelling to work or study at the university, says Anne Kathrine Overgaard, Head of External Projects at SUND.

Space for cars - and movement

That being said, it is not a problem to reach the new faculty building by car - the carbon footprint of fossil transport set aside, adds Anne Kathrine Overgaard.

- The advantage here is that there is a 5-minute walk to the faculty building from the parking lots, so you get some exercise and circulation after sitting in the car.

- This small movement is completely in line with the faculty’s focus on Active Living, she explains.

Of course, there will be disabled parking spaces very close to the new HEALTH building.

Below you will find more information on parking and access to the faculty building. Please note that most of the information at this point is only available in Danish.

PARKING AND TRANSPORTATION:

500 bicycle parking spaces will be established in connection with the new HEALTH buidling. Of these, approximately 300 will be covered.

The bicycle parking spaces will be established at:

  • The main entrance to the new HEALTH building, located where the faculty building connects to the existing SDU.
  • The main entrance to Koblingsbygningen, which is the building that connects the faculty building with Nyt OUH.
  • The decentralized entrances under the new HEALTH building.

If you arrive at the new HEALTH building by car, you can use one of the 8 SDU parking spaces available around the university.

It is estimated that the established parking facilities will provide enough space, even when the new faculty building is put into use.

If, contrary to expectations, there are too few spaces, an additional 200 to 400 spaces can be quickly established. Two additional parking spaces are ready to be ordered when necessary.

If challenges arise with spaces being used by non-SDU staff/students, it is possible to activate a system with license plate recognition.
