The SDUx experiment comes to an end

Eighteen months ago, SDU’s management decided to try an experiment in developing new forms of further and continuing education under the name SDUx. The experiment is now coming to an end and the knowledge gained will be incorporated into the University’s work with ‘lifelong learning’.

Based on an evaluation, SDU management has decided to end the SDUx concept as a specific experiment in the University's collaboration with businesses on lifelong learning.

Unfortunately, SDUx has not achieved the necessary momentum in terms of demand for courses and in terms of anchoring the concept at the University. Therefore, SDU’s management believes that further investments in SDUx will not match the potential value creation in terms of experience, relationship building and revenue.

‘In developing the SDUx concept, SDU has gained useful experience on how we can work with businesses to create continuing and further education activities that meet their needs in terms of content and structure,’ says Pro-Rector Helle Waagepetersen.

‘We've learnt that working with businesses on development is important, but also that more general course activities find it difficult to achieve the necessary demand from companies.’

Continued need for lifelong learning

‘The experience gained from SDUx will be essential when SDU develops and expands its portfolio of education programmes and course offerings for people in employment in the years ahead,’ says Pro-Rector Helle Waagepetersen.

The master’s degree reform, along with an increasing political expectation that people in employment should be able to continue their education through universities’ range of ‘lifelong learning’ activities means that SDU will also be working on its portfolio of offerings for people in employment in the years ahead – ranging from graduate programmes and master’s programmes for working professionals to short courses and online courses.

‘Over the next few months, SDU’s management will involve the Executive Board in discussions on the further development of the area,’ says SDU’s pro-rector, who on behalf of SDU management extends a big thank you to all the many committed people at SDU who have been involved in developing and testing the SDUx concept.

Courses organised by SDUx which have already been planned and agreed with external actors will be carried out as planned.
