A word from the dean

A word from the dean

By Dean Marianne Holmer, , 2/17/2021

Dear staff

We have now reached the goal of the first part of the strategy for the Faculty of Science 2021-2025. The strategy is sent out with this newsletter, where you can read the strategy's three main areas: Interaction between people and organization, Research, and Education.

In this newsletter and the following two editions, we will dive into each of the three areas.

Following the consultation process in the autumn, the faculty's management group has discussed the strategy. Subsequent, adjustments have been implemented and layout has been finalised. I am very pleased with the result, which will be an important tool in the continued development of the faculty. In the coming months, the strategy will be discussed further in various councils and committees and with all staff at the departments at the Dean's corner in March.

The strategy is very ambitious. Therefore, we need to prioritize between the many points and set a timetable for the coming years. The actions must also be coordinated in relation to the institutes' strategies and priorities. I would very much like your help at the Dean's corner. Some points in the strategy are already well under way, e.g. we have worked a lot with the organization of the departments and the close management, but it is important that we continue to develop the management in line with the wishes of the employees. There are also new initiatives, e.g. the desire to bring the digital competencies more into play in research across the faculty and as an integral part of our educations.

The important thing now is that the strategy gets a life at the faculty. I must not be parked on a website only to be forgotten. We have established a project group at the faculty, which shall ensure that the strategy is kept alive and support the strategy process, e.g. by drawing up schedules, formulating actions together with employees and evaluating initiated activities. The project group consists of Tina Ellehuus Larsen, Gitte Toftgaard Jørgensen, Niels Kring, Poul Nielsen and the dean, and the group meets monthly. An important task for this group is to communicate about actions and activities. It will happen regularly here in the Newsletter and on SDUnet.

Initially, the focus is on priorities for 2021, and here your input is important. At the Dean's corner, you have the opportunity to share your suggestions. What, do you think, is most important? Where should we start? Are there any actions that are easy to take that will yield great results? What can wait until 2022 and beyond? It is also important to think about tasks that can be dispensed and streamlined in order to free up necessary resources for new thinking.

I am extremely happy and really proud that we have come this far despite closure and various extra tasks in 2020. I would like to acknowledge everyone who has contributed to the process and congratulate the Faculty of Science on the new strategy for 2021-2025.
