The Science bachelor programmes at SDU have received a total of 1178 applications. Last year, 767 young people chose science with a total of 1013 applications. It is a 16 percent increase this year.

The Science programmes have received 290 applications with 1st priority, against 261 last year. That equates to an 11 percent increase. In 2020, Science had a 10 percent increase in quota 2 applications compared to the previous year. At national level, the number of 1st priority applications for Science programmes has increased by 71, corresponding to 3 percent, and the Faculty of Science at SDU thus accounts for approx. half of that progress.

– It is positive that we can see an increase in our quota 2 applications for two years in a row. This indicates that young people are aware that they have an advantage of applying in quota 2, where they are assessed on something other than their grades, says Vice Dean for Education at the Faculty of Science, Poul Nielsen.

However, not all Science programmes have an increase in the number of applications for quota 2. Physics has a decrease in applicants of 54 percent, and the number of applicants for Computer Science has decreased by 22 percent compared to last year.

The largest increases in 1st priority applications are seen on Biomedicine, which increases 43 percent, while the two mathematics programmes have almost a doubling, with 92 percent more applications.

–  I think it is a great progress we are seeing in almost all our education programmes this year, says Niels Kring, Head of the Dean's Office.
– In the past year, we have converted all our outreach activities to online formats, and it is very gratifying to see that we have nevertheless succeeded in getting a satisfactory number of applicants.

SDU has received 11 percent more applications this year compared to last year. Looking only at 1st priority applications to SDU, the increase is a more modest 3 percent.

SDU’s programmes within Business and Social Sciences account for the largest increase in 1st priority applications, by 12 percent, while the Engineering programmes  experience a decrease of 5 percent in 1st priority applications this year.
