The Dean is the most senior manager at the Faculty of Science and also serves as a member of the University’s Executive Board. Together with the Faculty’s Vice-Dean for Education and the Head of Secretariat, the Dean forms the Dean’s Office.
The Faculty Management Team comprises the Dean, the Vice-Dean for Education, the Head of Secretariat, and the Faculty’s Heads of Department.
Science Faculty Administration
The Dean’s Office and the Faculty Management Team are supported administratively by the Science Faculty Administration, which comprises six teams and the Secretariat for the Danish Advanced Research Academy.
Dean’s Secretariat
The Dean’s Secretariat provides management services for the Faculty Management Team, and strategic initiatives are often anchored here. In addition, the Dean’s Secretariat serves the Academic Council, the Liaison Committee, the Health and Safety Committee, the Health and Safety Network, the Digitalisation Committee, SECDEF, and the inter-institutional Tek-Nat college, which brings together the country’s science deans.
The Dean’s Secretariat is also responsible for the Faculty’s recruitment processes for academic positions, the Dean’s events, data security, and GDPR.
External Relations
The External Relations team helps researchers at the Faculty of Science find and apply for funding from private and public foundations, both Danish and international. The team’s work generally involves providing information and matching applicants with the wide range of funding opportunities available. The team also provides guidance on individual applications to ensure they meet the specific requirements of each funding body.
In addition, the team provides administrative support for large projects that have a degree of coordination work that requires special assistance, as well as guidance on legal aspects of funding applications and research work.
Communications
The Communications team is responsible for popular science research dissemination, information campaigns for the education programmes, coordination of the Faculty’s web communication, and coordination of bridging activities across the departments.
An ambassador corps of 25-30 students is associated with the team to support recruitment efforts by participating in advertising material and welcoming prospective students in connection with initiatives such as Student for a Day, Science Camp, and similar activities.
In addition, the team produces the faculty’s newsletter and supports the Faculty Management Team’s external communication and internal communication with staff. The team also runs the Faculty’s profiles on LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook.
Study Administration
The Study Administration team handles a number of tasks that support the academic operations and the educational programmes at the Faculty of Science. The team serves the study boards and supports the preparation of programme regulations and course descriptions, as well as handling applications for credit transfers and exemptions. The Study Administration team is also responsible for timetable planning, exam planning, conducting exams and handling examination appeals.
In addition, the Study Administration team plays a central role in the study start and coordination of first-year projects, and manages the study pages on MySDU.dk. The team provides technical and administrative support for systems such as ODIN, itslearning, Digital Exam, and SPOC, and is responsible for e-learning support, quality assurance policies (SAK-KVAL), and administrative coordination (SAK-ADM). The Study Administration also supports the work of the Vice Dean of Education and handles development tasks.
Study Environment and Counselling
The Study Environment and Counselling team consists of four student counsellors (including the team leader), the deputy head of the Faculty’s PhD School, and a project officer.
The primary role of student counselling spans the entire student journey – before, during and after their stuies, i.e. help with prospective students’ study choices, counselling and career guidance throughout their studies. Therefore, the team works closely with the Study Administration team.
In addition to counselling, the team handles tasks within study start, study environment, student well-being, internationalisation of education programmes, career promotion and job readiness, and graduation.
The team also supports recruitment efforts at open day events, student fairs and similar events. The Study Environment and Counselling team also represents the Faculty in a number of forums at the university.
Science Finance
The Science Finance section is a support function ensuring that the Faculty’s strategies and activities rest on a solid financial foundation. The section works closely with researchers and managers on the finances of research projects, providing timely and expert financial advice, while ensuring compliance with rules and guidelines from external funding bodies. The section also supports the daily financial management of the faculty's research projects, including ongoing payroll monitoring, account coding, invoice processing, and approval of travel reimbursements via zExpense.
The section is responsible for the Faculty’s overall finances and also handles the daily financial management, including interaction with departments and the central financial administration at SDU. With a focus on developing and implementing effective procedures, the section contributes to strengthening financial quality and supports the faculty’s work with increasingly stringent requirements for documentation and management. The section is thus an active player in ensuring professional project and financial management at all levels.
