Guidance and support for ODIN

ODIN is a database that is used throughout SDU to create and manage course descriptions and programme regulations. Here you will find instructions on how you, as a teacher, edit course descriptions in ODIN.

Process for changes to course descriptions

At the Faculty of Science, the Study Board processes changes to course descriptions twice a year. Changes to the course descriptions are processed according to the type of change involved:

  • Category A: Offer period, title, ECTS weighting, examination regulations, duration of the course (number of semesters).
  • Category B: Other text fields such as content, purpose, learning objectives, academic prerequisites.

See overview of Category A and Category B

The Board of Studies processes the course descriptions in the following periods:

  • Spring courses: Category A is processed in September; category B is processed in October
  • Autumn courses: Category A is processed in January; category B is processed in March

Deadlines: The degree programme secretary at the department issues internal deadlines.

Guidance for ODIN:

When you as a teacher need to edit your course description, you log in to sdu.dk/editcourse

You log in with SDU's Single Sign-On. Username and password are the same as the one you use for your SDUmail.

Via the link above, you access the overview of the courses you have access to edit. If there are courses missing from the list, please contact the study secretary at the institute or natkurser@sdu.dk.

Note: odin.sdu.dk gives access to an extended version of ODIN, and therefore you as a teacher are recommended to use the link above, which only gives you access to the necessary functions.

Recommended browsers

  • Chrome (primarily)
  • Firefox

Are you a Mac user?
If you have a Mac computer, you are recommended to go to the SDU IT Service Desk to have your settings adjusted, as there may be problems logging in.

Is this your first time using ODIN?

If this is the first time you are using ODIN, press your name in the right corner and select "Faculty of Science". You only need to do this the first time you log into ODIN.

NOTE:  If the button "I'm done editing" or "Save" is missing, zoom out on your browser - you do this by clicking on the dots in the right corner of your browser.

In "Overview of course descriptions you have access to edit" you will find the courses that have been opened up for.

How to edit a course description: Will be added in mid-June.

  • Select the course description you want to edit (blue pencil)
  • Unlock the course description if it is locked (Orange button)
  • Make your corrections in the available text fields (white fields)
  • Select "I'm done editing" (blue button)Press save (green button)

General recommendations when editing a course description in ODIN

  • Save continuously - check that you get the system message "Saved"
  • Remove formatting if copying from another document (e.g. Word)
  • If you need to edit the course description at a later time, remember to update your browser next time and to log in again.

Possible error messages during preparation of the course description

  • Cannot edit course description
  • Error saving
  • Try saving again
  • Attempt to save course description failed. If it doesn't work on the next try, please contact the support.
  • Please wait

If you have problems saving the changes, please wait and save again. If that doesn't work, refresh the page. It may be a good idea to copy your changes into a text document, otherwise you may risk that they have not been saved.

If you experience problems or have general questions about ODIN, you are welcome to write to NAT ODIN Mailbox: nat-odin@sdu.dk or contact Camilla Katrine Hollmann (camkat@sdu.dk) in the student administration at the Faculty of Science.

You are also welcome to come by or book a meeting if you need a short introduction to ODIN.

In case of repeated error messages, please send the course code and a screenshot of the error to nat-odin@sdu.dk, and we will forward your case to the ODIN support at SDU.
