Summer

What am I doing during my summer holidays?

We asked a number of our colleagues what their plans are for the summer holidays. Perhaps we can all get some inspiration on how to unwind?

Just like everyone else, I am also looking forward to a few weeks of summer holiday. The absolute highlight for me is that we are expecting a new grandchild in August. This will be the third one, but that doesn’t make the excitement and joy any less. I hope you and your families have a wonderful summer!

Holiday and relaxation are just around the corner, and it’s all about enjoying it, recharging, and just being present in the moment. For the first couple of days, I check emails and phone messages several times a day, and I can feel that going offline is a choice. Several stress coaches actually point out that we tend to transfer the pace of work life to our holidays, so as a countermeasure, summer holiday for me means time for presence, relaxation, and slowness. This year, we’re going to the jazz festival in Copenhagen, spending a few weeks in a summer house, and ending the holiday in Berlin, where modern city life and history merge.

Director of the National Institute of Public Health

Together with my family, I’m taking a train to a small seaside town in Liguria, where we’ve been several times. After a few days there with beach, ice cream, and pizza, we’ll sail to Corsica, which we’re visiting for the first time and are excited to explore. The last part of the holiday will be spent at our summer house in Odsherred. A stack of good novels will come with us on holiday – and a football to keep my sons occupied.

Office Manager, SDU Research Support

I’m starting my summer holiday with a week of hiking in beautiful Italy. The rest of the holiday will be spent in Bogense, where I’ll be cycling, reading (I’ve collected a small stack of books waiting to be read), and painting (acrylics and perhaps a bit of watercolour). The keywords are: nature, movement, and good company. It’s going to be great!

Professor at the Department of Public Health

I have three small children aged two, five, and nine. The corona pandemic taught us that the big trips abroad were more for us parents (and our expectations) than for the kids. And let’s face it, airports and tired children are not that fun. This year, our summer holiday is twelve days in a summer house in Sweden, followed by two days at Astrid Lindgren’s World. We did the same last year, by the way. Then we’ll spend a week at home. Three weeks without access to emails – that’s something special.
