The analysis of the study administration

The analysis of the study administration is now public

Carve’s analysis of SDU’s study administration is complete and is available at sdunet.dk. The upcoming months will be spent discussing the material before the Executive Board makes a decision on the recommendations in the second quarter.

In autumn 2022, the consultancy Carve carried out a mapping of SDU’s tasks and use of resources within study administration and has formulated recommendations for what SDU’s study administration should be able to do in 3–5 years in order to deal with major political, economic, demographic and technological changes in the field of education.

Carve’s report, containing mapping and recommendations, is now available in its entirety at sdunet.dk. The main point of the report is that across organisational levels and geographical locations, SDU’s study administration is characterised by a wide spread of tasks, arbitrary organisation and ordinary operational focus. Since SDU and other universities must expect declining student admissions due to demographics, as well as having to adopt completely new digital solutions in the coming years, the recommendation is that SDU organises the overall study administrative tasks in new ways in order to be able to face the changes.

Complex adjustment

Along with Carve’s report, the Rectorate also presents a memorandum with its considerations about the report and possible measures to be taken.

- With Carve’s report, for the first time in many years we now have a comprehensive organisational picture of the University’s study administration. The report contains many interesting points and recommendations, which we all now need to have time to read and discuss. After a good dialogue phase over the next few months, the Executive Board will discuss and process concrete decision proposals, says University Director Thomas Buchvald Vind.

- I expect that the restructuring of the University’s ability to solve study administrative tasks will be complex and will take time. Such a restructuring must also take into account that students, academic staff and programmes should continue to receive the necessary help and service, and that we prioritise resources to implement new digital solutions in the field of education in the coming years.

Great commitment

Carve has carried out the analysis based on data that the University’s units themselves submit to SDU’s specified purpose accounts each year. The registered data has been further sorted by study administrative tasks via a large number of managerial interviews at the University.

- A very big thank you must go to everyone who has assisted Carve during the analysis. Carve has told me several times that everywhere at the University they have experienced great commitment, openness and willingness to co-operate. On behalf of the Rectorate, I would also like to send a big thank you to all employees and managers, who make a great effort every day to keep the University’s education programmes running, says Thomas Buchvald Vind.
