Corridors of New SUND named

From Skoven over Tveden to Forten. The corridors at New SUND are named after the natural surroundings and cultural history.

Gydehutten, Stenten, Vangene and Knoldene. Even to a Dane, the corridors at SDU's Odense Campus sound rather peculiar.

However, there is an explanation. They originate from old place names in the area where the university is located today.

To create coherence with the rest of the campus, the corridors at New SUND have also been given names rooted in the natural surroundings and cultural history:

  • Skoven
  • Marken
  • Tveden
  • Toften
  • Forten (Forten N and Forten S)

Side corridors at New SUND

Just as the names of the side corridors running east-west through New SUND have been deliberately chosen, so is the sequence of names.

The sequence of names from north to south makes that you move:

  • from nature in Skoven (the forest)
  • over the cultivated areas of Marken (the field) and Tveden (a clearing)
  • to the settlement Toften (plot of land zoned for settlement)
  • and Forten (communal area in the middle of the village).

Main entrances and main corridors at New SUND

As seen on the map above, New SUND connects to SDU's existing road network at Stenten. Here the entrance will be called Stenten S.

The entrance at the southern end of New SUND, which we share with OUH, will be called Koblingen.

The main corridor of the building, which has been named Aksen, runs from Stenten S at the northern end of New SUND to Koblingen at the southern end.

The name Aksen falls slightly outside the model, but it is taken from and is a slightly adapted version of the vision work's term Vidensaksen (axis of knowledge). The same is true for the name of the southernmost entrance, Koblingen (the connection).
