SDU’s own translation tool is ready for use
The University of Southern Denmark is now making it possible to use artificial intelligence (AI) to translate internal news items and other brief texts. What is special about the AI-based translation tool is that it contains an SDU term list, so that the names of the University’s centres, departments and the like are translated correctly.
When translating news items for SDUnet, texts for presentations or similar internal productions, you have to use SDU’s new translation tool in the future.
Language Services is experiencing a high demand for translation tasks. This is why we prioritise that our language consultants deliver human translation of relevant content for external channels, such as research-related texts, strategically important news for the surrounding world, etc.
The translation tool is easy to find and use
The translation tool is available on SDUnet and can be used by everyone.
Select the language to translate from and to, insert your text and then click translate. Finally, copy the translated text back into your working document. Note that the translated text is unformatted.
One of the challenges of using artificial intelligence for translation is that the common AI tools rarely use the correct SDU terminology. But SDU’s translation tool does, as it is equipped with a comprehensive term list of names, titles and specific terms from the University.
Remember to post-edit your translation
As the author of a text, you are responsible for reading the translation carefully and ensuring that the desired message is clear – also in the translated text.
If you have any additions to the term list, such as names, titles or other terms that are special and common to SDU, they can be added to the term list – write to sprog@sdu.dk with ‘Term list’ in the subject line.
