Week 12: The 2021 Budget - The adjustment process is almost over

Three main fields at SDU have almost completed an adjustment process to be able to meet their budgets in 2021 and the coming years.

These are the Central Administration, the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Humanities, which together have found savings of almost DKK 50 million. This corresponds to just over 1.4 per cent of SDU’s total budget of DKK 3.4 billion.

The adjustments are divided between the three main fields in the following way: DKK 25 million in the Central Administration, DKK 15 million at the Faculty of Engineering and DKK 8.4 million at the Faculty of Humanities.

The remediation phase: 27 voluntary resignations

The three main fields all carried out a remediation phase in January-February to reduce the number of dismissals, and in that phase, 27 voluntary severance agreements were concluded.

At the same time, the employees had the opportunity to make suggestions for efficiency improvements, reorganisations and other initiatives that would have a positive impact on the finances.

After the remediation phase, 23 employees were recommended for dismissal, and thus the total staff reduction in connection with the 2021 budget will add up to 50 employees. In addition, there are vacancies that will not be refilled.

The employees who were recommended for dismissal were briefed during the first week of March. As an alternative, most of them have wanted to enter into a voluntary severance agreement.

Consequences of the adjustment

In addition to staff reductions, decisions have been made on operating savings of DKK 20 million. This means that in some areas in the Central Administration, there will be service deterioration and tasks that will be discontinued.

Now that the formal process is completed, the three main fields will start implementing the adjustments.
