Week 4: Information about the adjustment process

On 21 January, it was announced that three main areas – the Central Administration, the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Engineering – need to implement adjustments to realise the 2021-2024 budget.

This information has been prepared to inform interested employees about the ongoing process. You can read more about meetings and dialogues, suggestions from employees and voluntary resignation.

Meetings and dialogue

Following the announcement on 21 January that three main areas at SDU need to implement local adjustments in the 2021 budget, a string of local meetings have been held to inform employees in more detail about the situation and the process.

Hopefully, as an employee, you have had the opportunity to ask questions and enter into dialogue with both managers and union representatives. That said, the amount of information about how the adjustments will be realised is, at present, quite limited.

We are in the middle of the part of the process called the remediation phase. This means that we are examining the possibilities of limiting the number of redundancies through other measures: Voluntary resignations, staff attrition, senior schemes etc., operational cuts or new income/earning opportunities.

The uncertainty about what the economic adjustments will mean for each employee can give rise to concerns, not least in a time where we are working from home and only get to meet each other digitally. If you as, an employee, need to discuss matters, please do not hesitate to contact your manager, your union representative or Human Resource Service.

At SDU, the management has a good working relationship with the union representatives, and this is also the case in this process, where the management of the three main areas is in close contact with the union representatives.

Suggestions from employees

Many employees have wanted to come up with proposals to improve our economy. It's wonderful to feel such great commitment.

f you, as an employee, would like to propose a good idea to contribute towards finding the desired adjustments, please feel free to pass it on to your immediate manager.

Alternatively, you may submit your proposal in a form at https://sdunet.dk/en/personale/budget2021/budget2021_forslag.

Such proposals may, for example, be ideas for reorganising operations, new earning opportunities or simplifying task solutions.

The proposals are collected and handed over to the deans or the University Director, depending on the nature of the proposal. The proposals will be included in the basis for the management's decisions on adjustments.

Voluntary resignation

If you would like to know more about the terms that SDU can offer to employees who are considering changing their work life (e.g. through a voluntary resignation), your union representative, manager or Human Resource Service are available for a confidential conversation.

At SDUnet, you can also view the framework agreements that have been entered into for voluntary resignations and see examples of how a voluntary resignation can work out in terms of finances, time perspective and assistance with competence development. See sdunet.dk/budget2021 for more information.

If you, as an employee, are interested in entering into a dialogue about a voluntary resignation or have other requests to change your employment, please notify your union representative, your manager or Human Resource Service no later than Friday 5 February 2021.
