Call to investigate collaborations in research and education

In a joint statement, Universities Denmark have announced that they are suspending cooperation with Russia and Belarus. They now call for caution in collaborations involving companies from the two countries.

SDU and the other Danish universities agreed that they should clarify the previously announced statement on cooperation in research and education with Russian or Belarusian institutions.

Thus, the following also applies to SDU’s researchers:

1) In co-publication, the University’s researchers must exercise special care in relation to the co-authors’ place of employment, the purpose of the research and its funding. There must be no doubt as to whether a co-publication will appear to support the Russian or Belarusian regime. If any doubt, it must be clarified with management whether co-publication can take place.

2) In the case of cooperation in research or education involving Russian or Belarusian-owned companies, the University’s researchers must exercise special care in relation to the company’s purpose and ownership. There must be no doubt as to whether the cooperation will appear to support the Russian or Belarusian regime. If any doubt, it must be clarified with management whether the cooperation can continue.

As mentioned, SDU’s decision to suspend all cooperation with the governments of both Russia and Belarus is not directed at the citizens of Russia or Belarus. As a university, SDU is concerned with treating students and staff properly and respectfully, regardless of nationality and background.
