Consent

Read about consent, especially for children and young people, and learn what you need to be aware of when obtaining consent from children and young people.

One of several legal bases for processing

Consent is just one of several legal bases. It is rare that consent is the most appropriate legal basis for processing. If you have determined that consent is the most appropriate basis for processing in your specific case, you must obtain voluntary, specific, informed and unambiguous consent.

Consent must always be obtained from the data subject before the processing is initiated, and thus also before you take the photo, for example. In addition, there must at least be information about:

  • The identity of the data controller
  • The purpose of the processing
  • The data being processed
  • The right to withdraw consent.

Specifically for children and young people

All persons aged 15 years or older can generally give consent if it is assessed that they can understand the information and recognise the consequences of giving consent to the processing of personal data. However, there are some things you should be aware of if you want to obtain consent from children or young people.
