About education quality
Guiding principles for education at SDU updated
The Council for Education has approved an updated version of the principles that were first adopted in 2012.
The guiding principles for teaching unfold the university pedagogical ideals on which SDU's policy for educational quality is based, namely student-centred learning, activating teaching and engaging communities.
- These principles mean that teaching at SDU always
focuses on students' deep learning, independence and critical thinking - is based on students' active engagement in learning activities
- is established and maintained through a concrete learning community between students, fellow students and teachers
The new version thus continues the ambitions for active learning and activating teaching, but now also emphasises the need for a committed community as an element that supports learning and creates a sense of belonging. The principles are also aligned with SDU's recently updated principles for evaluation of teaching. You can find more about the principles on the quality assurance system website.
The principles came into force on 1 November 2025, and they must be fully implemented by summer 2027. SDU Centre for Teaching and Learning can contribute to the development of teaching competencies and teaching designs that support the implementation and follow-up.
