Join us at TAL2026: Learning communities

On November 5, 2026, the TAL2026 conference brings together teachers, leaders, and educational developers to focus on active teaching and learning, with particular emphasis on learning communities as a way to strengthen engagement, collaboration and meaningful learning experiences.

The theme of TAL2026 is rooted in the updated underlying principles for teaching at SDU. Learning communities can be understood in many ways and take place in a range of contexts, for example in study start, group work and communities of practice, and they play a central role in active teaching and learning.

Keynote

Learning communities are in constant change. But what have they become? And what are they on the way to becoming? In the conference keynote, PhD and assistant professor at University College Copenhagen, Laura Louise Sarauw invites participants to consider the changing purposes of learning communities in higher education.

Drawing on examples from Denmark, she explores how institutional priorities such as student well-being, retention and employability influence pedagogical choices, often without being explicitly articulated. The keynote invites shared reflection on how learning communities can remain pedagogically open within new social and institutional contexts.

Conference contributions: Abstract submission

We are currently inviting abstracts from participants interested in contributing to the conference and its theme in the form of a short communication, poster presentation, or workshop. The deadline for abstract submission is August 3, 2026.
