History Students Register Historical Maps at the Library

The Special Collections Unit at the Library at the University of Southern Denmark contains many exciting materials, not least maps, that aren’t registered and therefore not available for library users. In a cooperation between the library (SDUB), the History Department and the Spearhead [Spydspids] Project (Digital Competencies and History as a Discipline), a small group of history students learn how to digitize the maps and create relevant meta data. The objective is for the students to acquire these valuable competencies – while at the same time making more maps available to a broad audience.

The project ran for the first time last Fall and it went very well. We therefore continue this Spring 2022 offering the opportunity to three new students. If you know of any MA history students who could be interested in participating, please ask them to contact the Spearhead project coordinator, Anne Magnussen (magnussen@sdu.dk) for further information. The deadline is soon, i.e. 6 February.
