A good start as a technical-administrative staff member af the Faculty of Science

Starting a new position as a technical-administrative staff member (TAP) at a department or within the faculty secretariat can feel overwhelming at first.

Finding your place and understanding your responsibilities takes time, which is why it’s a good idea to be curious and ask questions from the outset. Take the initiative to get to know your colleagues – both professionally and socially – and don’t hesitate to ask questions, even if they seem basic. Many employees highlight that an open and positive approach to collaboration and community makes a real difference. Join social activities and seek out opportunities to connect with others so you can quickly feel at home.

Take time to understand how the faculty operates – for example, by reading meeting minutes and participating in committees or working groups when the opportunity arises. And remember to contribute your own ideas and perspectives – your voice matters from day one.

Finally, it can be very helpful to find a mentor and to actively contribute to a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
