HEALTH's New Research Strategy Finalised

Since the spring of 2022, researchers and leaders across the Faculty of Health Sciences (HEALTH) have been working to create a shared vision: Health for all – for the individual and for society. This vision forms the foundation of our new research strategy, which is now complete.

By SUND Kommunikation, 5/31/2024

- Our goal is clear: We want to play a central role in the development of the healthcare system and public health in general. With the research strategy, we place these ambitions at the forefront, explains Ole Skøtt, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Ole Skøtt and Uffe Holmskov, Vice Dean for Research and Innovation, have led the development of the strategy. Together with a team of researchers, the faculty leadership, and partners from Odense University Hospital (OUH) and regional hospitals, they have formulated a plan that is now ready to be implemented.

Our Research Must Create Health for All

The strategy focuses on strengthening our research profile so that it becomes known for its contribution to society and for shaping the future through top-quality, talent development, and outstanding research environments.

- We want to contribute to shaping the society of the future by conducting excellent research within motivating frameworks. By means of outstanding research environments, we also lay the foundation for delivering research-based education of the highest quality, says Uffe Holmskov.

- In general, the focus is on the individual and the relationship with the surrounding community, whether it is the researcher, the student, or the citizen in society. HEALTH's research is conducted for all of us, he emphasizes.

The Strategy in Brief

By 2030, HEALTH will be known for:

  1. First-Class Research Support: We provide straightforward access to research support from idea to implementation, ensuring the best results.

  2. Excellent Research that Improves Health: We focus on attracting and developing top researchers and increasing our international collaborations.

  3. Translational and Interdisciplinary Research: We conduct research in interaction with both international and national partners, including regional hospitals and other faculties.

  4. Close Collaboration with Citizens, Patients, and Families: We strengthen democracy in the healthcare sector and combat health inequality by involving the citizen, the patient, and their families in our research.

  5. Increased Focus on Innovation: We implement groundbreaking research for the benefit of society and explore new forms of collaboration to share knowledge and realize projects.

Next Steps – From Vision to Reality

Now begins the work of bringing our strategy to life. This means that we will prioritize the five focus areas in our research activities and funding initiatives.

HEALTH Research Support will play a key role in this process by offering strategic advice from the initial ideas to the realization of results that create value for society.

- I look forward to contributing to this work together with my colleagues in the unit and in close collaboration with RIO, the other faculties, and the Region of Southern Denmark, says Anne Kathrine Overgaard, Head of  HEALTH Research Support, who has been a key figure in the development of the research strategy.

The strategy will truly gain momentum after the summer break, with a kickoff event on October 7th. More information about the event will follow.
