The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) requires that its researchers must apply for a bench fee from the foundations whenever possible. Therefore, bench fees have been calculated for use in relation to external funding. This policy applies for all of SDU.
Research-related Bench fees at SDU
Research-related Bench fees consists of research-related costs and includes the following types of expenses:

Common or shared laboratory expenses and consumables

Laboratory utilities (electricity, gas, water)

Maintenance of essential equipment

Service contracts

Technical and IT support
Bench fee does not include rent, administrative support, representation, social contributions etc.
This also means that there are no overhead costs included in bench fees.
Bench Fees at SDU are calculated using the overall costs regarding the above-mentioned types of expenses and calculated per research employees (FTE). This means that the bench fees are aver-ages across all projects and all research FTEs.
Grant providers have different policies for what they are willing to fund, but the Applicants must apply bench fees for a maximum DKK 103.844 per year per FTE working on the project. The calculation is based on accounting figures for 2019-2021
