FAQ: New ERC bonus for researchers and department

1) Interview bonus*: A grant of DKK 0.5 million is awarded per ERC interview. Divided into DKK 250,000 for the researcher and DKK 250,000 for the department.

2) Grant bonus: A grant of DKK 0.5 million is awarded per secured ERC grant. Divided into DKK 250,000 for the researcher and DKK 250,000 for the department.

*For the individual researcher, the interview bonus can be released a maximum of once per instrument.

Grant letters dated from 1 May 2024 to 30 April 2028. 

Exception: In the current ERC Consolidator and Synergy round, the funds will also be available to SDU applicants who have been invited to interviews if the interview is to be held after 1 May 2024. This applies even if the grant letter is dated before 1 May 2024.

The funds for the bonus model have been allocated from the Executive Board’s Strategic Pool.

The ERC initiative must be viewed, developed and implemented in conjunction with the funding strategy’s other initiatives targeted at funding and career development.

The initiative has been discussed in the University Council, the Central Liaison Committee, the RI Council and FS-K, respectively.

Interview bonus: When an SDU researcher has participated in an ERC interview, the dean informs the Rector (rektor@sdu.dk), copying Financial Services (budget@sdu.dk and mimj@sdu.dk) on the email, of the following:
a. Researcher’s name 
b. Department 
The Rector confirms receipt of the email to everyone. Financial Services then initiates the process of disbursing the funds. 

Grant bonus: When an SDU researcher receives an ERC grant, the dean informs the Rector (rektor@sdu.dk), copying Financial Services (budget@sdu.dk and mimj@sdu.dk) on the email, of the following information: 
a. Researcher’s name 
b. Department 
c. Grant amount 
d. Grant period 
The Rector confirms receipt of the email to everyone. Financial Services can then initiate the process of disbursing the funds. 

In collaboration with Financial Services, the researcher’s department must create two analysis numbers: one for the researcher’s part of the grant and one for the department’s part of the grant.
