Overview of credits and pre-approval of credit transfer practices

  • Credits and pre-approval of credits are always granted based on a specific academic evaluation.

  • Credits and pre-approval of credits can be granted when the courses are at the same academic level. As a rule, credits and pre-approval of credits are not granted from bachelor-level courses to master's level courses.

  • It is not possible to transfer credits from a master's program to a master's level program and vice versa.

  • A thesis, which is part of a completed degree program, cannot be transferred for credit.

  • Pre-approval of credits for courses from other Danish universities is only granted when the ECTS weight is the same. However, block credits can be granted, where, for example, two courses of 7.5 ECTS are transferred as a block of 15 ECTS to another block of 15 ECTS, e.g., if it consists of a course of 10 ECTS and one of 5 ECTS. For courses from foreign universities, there is greater flexibility to accept minor deviations in the ECTS weight.

  • Credits and pre-approval of credits can be granted from other Danish universities for mandatory courses when there is overlap in the content and focus of the courses. For courses from foreign universities, typically a minor overlap in content and focus is accepted.

  • Credits and pre-approval of credits can be granted for elective courses when the course is broadly relevant to the program and if it can be argued that the elective course shapes the program in the desired direction.
