The new signage and directions at Campus are taking shape

We are now a good deal closer to our goal of making the signage of entrances and corridors clearer, thus making it easier to find your way around Campus Odense. Several more initiatives are underway.

Coherence in signage and directions

We have strived for a coherent and systematic approach to signage and directions, which help people from the parking areas and bus stops and into Campus, from the entrance to a specific area and on to their final destination.

The core of our solution is a clarification of the original 'road network' in combination with the corners of the world, so that it can be used more effectively to find out where you are and how to reach your goal. The road network consists of the north-south corridors Gydehutten and Stenten as well as the east-west lateral corridors Knoldene, Krogene, Bøgene, Lysningen, Agrene and Vangene.

We encourage you to take advantage of the fact that the road net is now clearer and uses the names of entrances and corridors whenever you have to show somebody to a meeting room, a classroom, a service function, an office or a department.

What we have achieved to so far:

• Signs above all of the entrance doors have been named after the main 'streets' they lead into and indicate which side of campus you are on.
• On the floors where the corridors intersect, you will find compasses indicating names of corridors and directions.
• Stands with maps and finger signs pointing towards the entrances, located around the Campus beside paths and at parking areas and bus stops.
• Marking of inside corridor names with signs above the doors to the corridors
• Signage at the stairwells on the main corridors, indicating which corridor you are on, and pointing to teaching and meeting rooms etc. on the levels above and below.
• Hanging signs and foils on the doors from the major corridors to the side corridors, indicating departments, teaching and meeting rooms.

We are still working on:

• New maps that reflect the naming of corridors and entrances and help you figure out your location and how to reach your destination.
• Replacing the blue signs outside classrooms and other rooms with black signs with white text so that they follow the applicable design manual.
• Pictograms for elevators, toilets etc.

Tidying up

Throughout the process, we are tidying up. Outdated signs as well as local sign solutions will be removed so that the new signs and the overall consistency of the new solution are visible and do not get lost in the forests of old signs and other design logics. There is also a recommendation that new local sign solutions should not be implemented. Instead, please contact Technical Services at 8888@sdu.dk, so that together we can find a solution that fits in with the rest of the signage and directions for the benefit of the visitors, students and staff who use Campus Odense.
