Car Fleet
New electric cars on their way to the SDU Shared Car Fleet
SDU is replacing the last 25 petrol and diesel cars in the shared car fleet with 26 electric cars. This replacement means that, for a while, the selection in the Mileage Book booking system may appear smaller when you book a journey in 2027.
If you need to book a car for a journey in 2027, there may be fewer cars to choose from in Mileage Book. This is because the petrol and diesel cars will be blocked from booking, whilst the new electric cars cannot be added to the system until they have been delivered and made ready for use.
There will be no reduction in the number of cars available during the replacement process. The restriction applies solely to the selection in the booking system and affects all campuses.
The new electric cars will become available for booking on an ongoing basis. Technical Services expects 17 of the cars to be ready around mid-December 2026, and all 26 new electric cars to be bookable by 1 February 2027 at the latest. The timetable depends on deliveries.
Have you already booked a car?
All bookings for journeys from 1 January 2027 in the petrol and diesel cars that are being replaced will be cancelled. Technical Services will delete the bookings on an ongoing basis and notify the affected staff by email. Bookings for the current electric cars will not be affected.
If your booking is cancelled, you will need to make a new booking yourself. You can choose one of the other cars in the system or keep an eye on the selection as the new electric cars become available.
If you cannot find an available car for your journey, please contact Technical Services at 8888@sdu.dk or by telephone on 6550 8888 one week before you need the car. Technical Services will then try to find a car for you.
37 electric cars in the shared car fleet
The SDU Shared Car Fleet already has 11 electric cars. With the addition of 26 new ones, the fleet will total 37 electric cars, distributed across Odense, Sønderborg, Kolding, Esbjerg, Vejle and Slagelse.
This replacement programme is part of SDU's Climate Plan 2.0. It has been decided that all SDU's cars must be electric by the end of 2027 at the latest. This applies to both the cars in the shared car fleet and the university's other vehicles.
