SDU is investing in selected cutting-edge areas

SDU’s Board of Directors has decided to allocate DKK 100 million over the next four years to a strategic initiative focusing on cutting-edge research in quantum technology and autonomous systems.

These areas have been chosen because they combine excellent research, strong international standing and significant potential to deliver value to society through new knowledge, technological solutions and highly specialised expertise.

The investment is intended to support these research environments through, among other things, recruitment, talent development, external funding and strategic collaborations with businesses, foundations, public authorities and international research communities.

According to Rector Jens Ringsmose, the decision is part of SDU’s efforts to strengthen the university’s research impact in selected areas.

-SDU is a university that delivers value to society. In uncertain times, there is a need for research that is both of high international quality and focused on areas where new technologies can make a decisive difference. With this initiative, we are prioritising two research areas where SDU is particularly well-placed to make an international impact and contribute solutions that society needs,” says Rector Jens Ringsmose.

Chairman of the Board Søren Vilby emphasises that the initiative reflects a long-term priority in line with the university’s strategy.

-An investment of DKK 100 million is a significant strategic choice. SDU does not need to be the best at everything, but we must dare to prioritise the areas where the university has particular strengths for generating research with international impact and clear value for society, says Chair of the Board Søren Vilby.
