SDU’s GET team involved in two major EU projects

SDU’s Gender Equality Team (GET) is, as of this year, part of two major EU projects, in which their expertise in incorporating gender equality aspects into research and university operations will come into play for the benefit of SDU and the sector as a whole.

The Gender Equality Team (GET) at SDU is currently in Barcelona for a kick-off meeting of a major EU project to support European universities in working on gender equality in all aspects of research. Specifically, it is INSPIRE – the European Commission’s new European Centre of Excellence on Inclusive Gender Equality in Research & Innovation.

The Centre will be the EU’s leading resource for new knowledge on the design, implementation and evaluation of diversity and gender equality initiatives, including Gender Equality Plans, across the European university landscape.

The Centre will bring together and develop cutting-edge research, ambitious policy approaches and innovative practices in the fields of gender equality, diversity and inclusion – including ground-breaking approaches to intersectionality. The Centre’s 14 partners include a wide range of researchers, practitioners and institutions. INSPIRE will offer expertise and support to the university sector.

GET takes a central role

GET was one of the initiators of the project and will lead several work packages. In addition, GET is set to play a key support role for European universities in their efforts to build capacity to comply with the new requirements of the Horizon Europe programme to mainstream gender equality in the workforce, the organisation, and in research and teaching.

INSPIRE has received a €5 million grant from the Horizon Europe Framework Programme and will run for 4 years, starting on 1 October 2022.

Second major EU project this year

In addition to INSPIRE, the EU project GENDERACTIONplus was launched in June. This project is about gender equality for ministries of sciences and grantors, as well as other national and private actors in the academic landscape. Here, GET acts as an agent for the Ministry of Higher Education and Science and is seeking to increase the support and framework for the Danish university sector to meet the new Horizon Europe GEP requirements. This project has received €3 million and lasts three years.

According to GET Manager Eva Sophia Myers, the involvement in the two projects is a major recognition of the team’s efforts and expertise, which also benefits SDU.

- It is certainly a great privilege to be part of and contribute to the company formed by the two consortia. SDU has access to and is a co-creator of cutting-edge knowledge in the field. We will have great resources in the form of experts from Europe, so everything we do in departments and faculties in terms of equality and inclusion will be quality assured.

Important efforts for SDU

Ole Skøtt, the Chair of SDU’s Central Gender Equality Committee and Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, is pleased with GET’s work and their involvement in the two major projects.

- I am delighted that the GET team is being recognised for their extensive knowledge and efforts in this field through the two generous EU grants. GET has long contributed to the important agenda of equality, diversity and inclusion, and has positioned itself as a leading group both nationally and internationally.
