More expensive computers and longer delivery times
Developments in the hardware market are leading to more expensive computers and longer delivery times.
Significant challenges are currently being experienced in the global computer hardware market. Prices of key components – especially RAM – have risen sharply, and at the same time, limited availability of certain other hardware components has emerged. This affects both prices and delivery times for computers and other IT equipment.
The increases are partly due to a sharply increased global demand for memory for data centres, AI infrastructure, and cloud services.
For SDU, this means that procurement prices for all types of computers are generally rising significantly during this period. In many cases, longer delivery times than usual may also occur for special configurations of equipment or certain models, and some configurations of computers will not be deliverable at all.
SDU IT is closely monitoring the market and is continuously working with suppliers to ensure that our standard computers can still be delivered as reliably as possible. We are also doing our best to keep price increases down, but market developments mean that price adjustments will occur. We therefore recommend that orders for new equipment are planned well in advance – especially if there is a need for specific models or special hardware, and a significantly rising price level must be expected.
If you have questions about choosing a computer or delivery times, you are welcome to contact SDU IT.
