Code of conduct for the use of AI at SDU

The code of conduct for artificial intelligence at SDU sets out principles for the responsible, ethical, and strategic use of AI in research, education, and administration.

1. Human-centred and value-based

AI should support – not replace – human judgement, professionalism and relationships. Decisions that affect people need to be explained and anchored in accountable processes.

2. Quality and validity

The use of AI must support and not undermine professional quality. AI-generated content must be verified and critically evaluated by the individuals responsible for its authorship.

3. Transparency

Any use of AI in academic, administrative and research contexts must be transparent and in accordance with the guidelines that exist in the field.

4. Ethics and accountability

AI must not be used for purposes that violate SDU's values or society's ethical standards. This includes manipulation, cheating, surveillance, discrimination and unfair treatment.

5. Security and data protection

AI tools must be used in accordance with GDPR and SDU's data security policies. Personal data must not be shared with AI systems without a data processing agreement or compliance assessment.

6. Sustainability

AI solutions must be developed and used with consideration for environmental and societal resources. Sustainability aspects and the link to SDU's climate and sustainability goals are actively positioned in the choice of technologies.

About the AI code of conduct

The code is evaluated annually and updated continuously in line with technological, legal and organisational changes. Through SDU's prospective AI governance structure, input from staff and students will contribute to ensuring a continuously updated framework for the use of AI at SDU – just as they will be co-creators of more concrete and developed common frameworks for use in research, education and administration.

In our work on a code for SDU, we lean on the external trends and recommendations that will continuously arise and adapt them to the SDU context.
