About the use of generative AI

Rules for the use of generative AI in examinations updated

The academic environments should be aware of any need to change course descriptions - including for spring 2025

By SDU Student Services, , 6/28/2024

The rules for the use of generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) in examinations have been updated and replace the previously applicable guidelines, which were announced on 29 September 2023.

What are the general rules?

It is permitted for students to use generative AI when completing written take-home assignments, including bachelor projects, graduation projects and master’s theses, provided that generative AI content is clearly indicated.

It is not permitted to use generative AI in connection with written site tests, other supervised exams or in connection with oral tests.

Any exceptions will be stated in the course description.

What’s new?

Needs may vary from class to class or exam to exam. Therefore, the updated rules allow for a specific assessment in the course as to whether generative AI can be used in examinations. If it is necessary to deviate from the general rules, the exception will be stated in the applicable course description.

The academic environments should be aware of the faculty’s annual cycle and deadlines for any changes to course descriptions for upcoming semesters.

In the information to students, course descriptions will be emphasised as the place to read up on the use of generative AI, and lecturers will be referred to if there is any doubt.
