PhD Board

The PhD Board at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Southern Denmark, consists of both academic staff and PhD students. The Board plays a key role in ensuring the quality and progression of the PhD programme at the Faculty, cf. the Danish University Act § 16 b, subsection 7.

Responsibilities of the Board

To ensure student involvement in the PhD programme, a PhD Board is established. The Board has, among other things, the following responsibilities:

  • To make a recommendation to the Dean for the appointment of a chair of the Board from among the academic staff members and a vice-chair (if applicable) from among the PhD students.
  • To make recommendations to the Dean about the composition of assessment committees regarding PhD theses.
  • To approve PhD courses.
  • To prepare suggestion to the Head of the Doctoral School on internal guidelines for the Doctoral School, including PhD supervision.
  • To provide input to the Head of the Doctoral School about the planning and evaluation of the Doctoral School’s activities.
  • To assess applications for credit transfer and exemptions.
  • To make statements relating to the area of the committee in all matters concerning the PhD programme, which has been presented to the committee by the Dean or an authorised representative of the Dean.
