Record breaking turnover for the Faculty of Science

For the first time, the turnover of external funds rounded DKK 200 million, despite the fact that 2021 was also affected by corona.

Dear staff

A new semester begins; this time without COVID-19 restrictions. I know many are looking forward to returning to the auditoriums. This applies to both teachers and students, who now again have the opportunity to interact in the natural teaching space.

Online teaching makes a lot of things possible, but not everything. Especially the interaction is important so that one can interrupt if the lecture moves too fast; ask the question that is crucial for understanding the text - or signal if the lecture moves a little too slowly.

The start-up will probably not be without problems, as the number of infections is high, and we can expect many reports of illness among both teachers and students. Thus, it takes some time before everyday life becomes completely normal, if then normal still exists. Nor do I dare write post-corona, as we will live with corona in the future as well.

I hope that you will all welcome the students and each other when we return to Campus and accept the small adjustments that are needed after such a long time behind the computer at home.

I know that several departments have postponed social events for the spring, and I hope that it will be possible to carry them out within the next few months. We have set a new date for the New Year's Reception, which will be held on 22 February. I look forward to seeing you all.

Here in January, the faculty management group has reviewed the suggested themes from the strategy, which could be prioritised for 2022. We have decided to focus on three new themes and maintained focus on one theme from last year.

The four themes are: Retention of researchers, retention of students, future workplace and cross-cutting collaborations (continues from 2021). Read more about the strategy.

In the coming time, the individual themes will be further qualified in various committees, after which actions will be initiated. With regard to the cross-cutting collaborations, we have many different initiatives underway.

We will continuously communicate more about these, as I experience that far from everyone is familiar with the various activities.

Finally, a big praise to everyone: The Faculty of Science has done incredibly well with bringing home external funds in 2021, including Sapere Aude and Villum Young Investigator. It's so nice that the young researchers are doing well.

At the same time, the turnover of external funds rounded DKK 200 million for the first time, despite the fact that 2021 was also characterised by corona.

This shows that research has progressed well and that research has a high priority at the Faculty of Science. It also means that many young researchers from Denmark and abroad are employed at the institutes, which I hope fits in well and provides a good dynamic at night.
