The strategies of SDU

As the 2030 strategy of SDU has arrived we also continue to work with the faculty's 2025 strategy

By Marianne Holmer, , 9/28/2023

Dear staff

Over the spring and summer, there have been a number of discussions about SDU's new strategy in the executive board and in the various advisory bodies at SDU.

Most recently, it was discussed at a meeting between the management and the department heads last week. The plan is now for the rector and vice-rector to visit the institutes during the autumn and early spring to discuss the implementation of SDU's strategy.

At the same time, we are at the time of the year when we evaluate our current efforts and prioritize themes in the faculty's current strategy for 2024. The management group is focused on ensuring interaction between SDU's and faculty's strategy, while it is up to the department heads and section and the research group leaders to work with the local strategies.

It's a lot of strategy at once, and I'm aware that it can feel overwhelming and like a time-stealer on top of many other tasks. However, I do not think that it will be all too difficult for us, as there are many recognizable elements in SDU's strategy.

SDU's strategy focuses on recruiting, developing and retaining talented people at the university. It aligns well with the faculty's strategy, where we e.g. will create an attractive and dynamic research environment, work for a good workplace and focus on developing the graduates' skills and their awareness of skills - just to name a few themes.

I hope that it visible at the faculty that we have now had a number of focus areas for a few years and that there has been a development within these.

There are many agendas coming at us from the outside in this day and age. They will of course have an influence on the choice of themes in 2024. We do have some work to do regarding the candidate reform.

In this connection, we have been given the opportunity to bid on international study places in Kolding with an English-language version of Data Science. We had to act quickly, but IMADA and HUM and SAMF in Kolding supported us and we got the application sent in on time.

Great work by everyone involved - a big thank you from here.

The development in Vejle regarding further education programmes and an international campus will also be necessary themes in our strategy for the next year. These are external opportunities that fit with our desire to get more international students, but where it will be new for us that these programs are located outside Odense.

There are also other themes that come directly from our strategy. This applies, for example, to the work with external partnerships, where we have come a long way with Life Science Fyn and now want to start with other partnerships, e.g. within quantum research.

I hope that you will welcome the hearing of this year's themes in the faculty's committee and at the institutes. It is important to provide input to the hearing so that we can prioritize the scarce resources for the right actions.
