Applicants
More are applying to natural science programmes
13 percent more than last year have chosen a science bachelor's degree as their first priority. This is shown by the applicant numbers after the quota 2 deadline of 15 March.
265. This is how many first-priority applications the 12 science programmes received this year before the quota 2 deadline. That is 30 more than last year, which corresponds to an increase of 13 percent.
Unfortunately, the progress is not evenly distributed. Pharmacy goes back from 69 to 61 applications with first priority. On the other hand, Biomedicine goes from 36 to 44 this year.
The three mathematical Bachelor's degree programmes – Applied Mathematics, Mathematics and Mathematics-Economics – have the same overall number of first-priority applications as last year, namely 26.
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology also touches last year's level with 18 first-priority applications.
Biology and Computer Science each increase by 6 first-priority applications to 32 and 36, respectively. At the same time, Artificial Intelligence increases from 17 last year to 19 this year.
There is also progress in Physics. This year, 19 first-priority applications were received, compared to 10 last year.
As something new, Medicinal Chemistry is now presented as an independent education offer with its own programme pages on sdu.dk and in the education magazine. Whereas last year there were 0 first priority applications for Medicinal Chemistry in quota 2, this year there are 3.
At the same time, there have been 7 at Chemistry which is 4 more than last year. This means that Chemistry, including Medicinal Chemistry, has a total of 10 first-priority applications, where last year there were 3 in total in quota 2.
All in all, it is a positive result for the faculty, even if it is a long way from the peak in 2021 during the pandemic, when we, with 303 first-priority applications, were 14 percent higher than this year. If you instead look at the average for the past six years, this year we are 3 percent above this level after the quota 2 application deadline.
