Career event for students at Science
On Wednesday 22 March 2017, for the first time, the Faculty of Science in collaboration with SDU Business held a 4-hour career event for all students, across all years and study programmes. Between 30 and 40 students participated, and feedback from the day was positive.
In the preliminary evaluation of the event, the students wrote that it had helped them not to fear "coming out on the other side", that it had made them more aware of which competences their study programme gave them, that they had rediscovered their motivation for their studies, and that it was interesting to hear from alumni who had had alternative career paths compared to what they had originally imagined. The students were also made more aware of the potential importance of a study job, working with leisure associations and so on, and how important it is to create and maintain a network in order to find a job quickly after completing their studies.
The students spent the first two hours in the company of Senior Consultant Anna Lørup from Akademikernes A-kasse, where they worked with different exercises about competence clarity, while the last two hours were spent in the company of four speakers with different scientific profiles who told the students about their paths from education to job. They all had different and 'alternative' profiles in order to emphasise that having an education from Science can lead to jobs in many different areas: A physicist from Novo Nordisk, a statistician from ALK, a biologist with his own travel business. And then a less 'alternative' profile: A biomedic from DB Lab.
Forthcoming career events for students at Science
The event described above was a complete entity in itself, but also built upon SDU Business’ annual events, Company Dating and Business Brunch.
On 3 May from 4pm to 7pm, three employees from Novo Nordisk will also come and talk about their paths from SDU to Novo Nordisk. The event is for all Science students.
