SUND Research Support
Need help with your DFF application?
You have the opportunity to gain access to a comprehensive support programme from SUND Research Support and SUND Finance – the deadline is 17 June.
Are you planning to apply for funding from Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF) in autumn 2026? If so, you can gain access to a comprehensive support programme from SUND Research Support and SUND Finance, offering guidance and administrative support throughout the entire application process.
To take part in the support programme, you must contact the research support officer at your department no later than 17 June 2026.
The internal deadline is intended to ensure that applicants receive targeted support throughout all stages of the process. The initiative has been approved by the heads of department.
Contact research support
If you are planning to apply for a DFF Research Project 2 or a DFF International Postdoctoral Grant, please contact the research support officer at your department.
SUND would also like to draw attention to the DFF International Postdoctoral Grant programme, which has previously received relatively few applications from the faculty. The programme gives early-career researchers the opportunity to develop their careers and supports internationalisation as part of SUND’s research strategy.
The grant is administered by SDU and generates overhead funding for the university.
What support is available
If you contact SUND Research Support before the deadline, you may receive support including:
- Initial meeting with a research support officer
- Feedback on the project description
- Review of your CV
- Assistance with budgeting and approval procedures
- Input on the online application forms
- Final quality assurance of the application before submission
SUND Research Support tailors the support to both the applicant’s needs and the nature of the project.
If you contact us after the deadline
If capacity allows and the head of department prioritises the application, SUND Research Support will still try to assist. However, we cannot guarantee access to the full support programme.

Below you will find a brief description of the two DFF programmes and their application deadlines.

Send an email to the research support officer at your department before the internal deadline on 17 June 2026.
DFF Reseach project 2
A research project 2 is often characterised by a coordinated and mutually binding collaboration on a well-defined, joint research question.
However, it may also be a project formulated by a single researcher, which is to be carried out in their research team, when it can be argued that the project is particularly ambitious and resource-demanding, and that the research objective cannot be obtained through a DFF-Research Project1.
The research activities must establish synergy among any sub-projects, involve international collaboration (if relevant), and be of a high, international standard.
Council-specific conditions: DFF | Medical Sciences and DFF | Natural Sciences only fund DFF-Research Project2 in special instances where it has been persuasively argued that the objective cannot be reached through a DFF-Research Project1.
Budget: Between 2.55 and 4.45 mio DKK excl. overhead
Project period: Up to 4.5 years
Applicant requirement: PhD age of at least 8 years
Deadline: 7 October 2026
DFF International Postdoc
A DFF International Postdoc aims to strengthen the international mobility of younger talented researchers and to develop the competencies of researchers in the beginning of their research career.
The intention is to enable the grant recipient to consolidate their individual research profile by independently managing a concrete research project at a research institution abroad.
Budget: Up to 1.55 mio DKK
Project period: 2 years (12 consecutive months must be spent abroad)
Applicant requirement: PhD degree or equivalent qualifications obtained within a maximum of 3 years before the application deadline
Deadline: 5 November 2026
