DCM-TAP is now open for research projects

The Danish Center for Mouse Transgenics and Advanced Phenotyping (DCM-TAP) is now open at SDU and OUH. The centre gives researchers access to expertise and advanced technologies covering the entire process, from the generation of genetically modified mouse models to the characterisation of diseases and bodily functions.

The new research infrastructure has been established with support from the Novo Nordisk Foundation and aims to make it easier for researchers to develop and use advanced mouse models to investigate physiological processes and disease mechanisms.

DCM-TAP brings together three core areas: transgenic mouse model generation, advanced phenotyping and microsurgery. This means that researchers can receive support throughout the entire process, from the development of a new genetic mouse model through functional characterisation to the establishment of experimental disease models.

- The aim is to make advanced techniques and models accessible to more researchers. We want DCM-TAP to be a resource that promotes collaboration, quality and innovation in Danish disease research, said Professor Henrik Dimke when plans for the centre were announced in spring 2026.

Henrik Dimke, from the Department of Molecular Medicine heads DCM-TAP and its transgenic core facility. Professor Kate Lykke Lambertsen heads the Phenotyping Core, while Professor Peter Zvara heads the Microsurgery Core.

From genes to bodily functions

DCM-TAP enables researchers to investigate how genetic changes and diseases affect the way the body functions.

Using advanced phenotyping techniques, researchers will be able to investigate blood pressure, heart rhythm, kidney function, metabolism, motor function, memory and behaviour. DCM-TAP also offers microsurgical models in which experimental disease models can be established using precise surgical procedures.

DCM-TAP works closely with the Biomedical Laboratory (BML), which provides animal facilities as well as reproductive and technical services.

A range of services is already available, including the generation of genetically modified mouse models, a broad range of phenotyping techniques, as well as microsurgical infrastructure and expertise. Additional technologies and analysis platforms are currently being established and will be added progressively.

Have an idea for a project?

Researchers are encouraged to contact DCM-TAP early in the process. This provides an opportunity to discuss the project idea, experimental design and the most appropriate approach before the project gets under way.
