SUND at the Festival of Research

The Festival of Research 2025 was a great success!

On 26 April, SDU in Odense marked the Festival of Research 2025 by inviting the public to explore our research activities. The Faculty of Health Sciences (SUND) was prominently represented with 19 different events.

Happy faces and curious questions filled SDU as the university hosted more than 50 interactive workshops and debates, giving both children and adults a close-up experience of science.

The Faculty of Health Sciences (SUND) made a strong showing, contributing to 19 of the approximately 50 activities, with nearly 100 researchers and students from SUND spending their Saturday making their knowledge and research fields accessible and relevant for people of all ages.

This year was particularly special as we could also welcome guests into the SUND building. Although there was a bit more distance between activities, the lively traffic in the corridors and the number of visitors in every corner clearly showed that it was worth the walk.

Ole Skøtt, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, is pleased with the faculty's contribution to the event, highlighting the tremendous support and the ability to engage both colleagues and students – even on a Saturday.

– I am proud of how you manage to bring your knowledge to life, making it relevant and engaging for both children and adults. Your commitment means a great deal – both for the university’s role in society and for each visitor who leaves wiser and inspired, he says to the participants.

SUND showcased the breadth of the faculty's research

Among the activities involving SUND researchers, guests could learn about the importance of reading for brain development, explore the possibilities of microdosing, discover how to create healthy habits for children, and gain insights into how the liver keeps us healthy.

They could also learn more about ticks and disease prevention, try a pain simulator, and explore the role of menstruation throughout the different stages of life.

Visitors could dive into topics such as gender identity and hormone therapy, children’s digital habits, anatomy and plastination, and experience how artificial intelligence, robotics, and virtual hospital visits are shaping the future of healthcare.

In addition, guests could have their hearing tested, learn how to strengthen their bones, investigate the mechanisms of fear, and embark on an impressive journey through the work at the Department of Forensic Medicine.

The day also featured debates and shows with researchers from SUND – including appearances by Clement Kjersgaard and Jan Elhøj.

– A huge thank you to all researchers and students from the Faculty of Health Sciences who helped make the Festival of Research a success, says Ole Skøtt.
